Ernakulam Shiva Temple Festival, Ernakulam, India (part 2)

Pakalpooram (elephant procession), Ernakulam Shiva Temple Festival (Ernakulathappan Uthsavam). Ernakulam, Kerala. India. In previous post I already wrote about Ernakulam Shiva Temple Festival. It’s really interesting event and if you have chance to see it you should not miss it.

Decoration at Ernakulam Shiva Temple during Ernakulam Shiva Temple Festival (Ernakulathappan Uthsavam). Ernakulam, Kerala. India. The most interesting part is pakalpooram the procession of elephants. Elephants are waiting on small ground in front of the Shiva temple. At the day of pakalpooram they take bath and are slowly decorated. Then if they are ready they go through the temple followed by crowed of the people. Most of the procession finishes at large ground behind the temple. Few of the elephants with music band go through the streets and make offerings. But most the action is at temple ground. Lot of people is coming through the afternoon. They are sitting and talking, buying stuff from local shops temporarily built near the temple and watching the elephant procession. When elephant walk through the street is finished the remaining elephants join the temple ground and now the main pakalpooram will start. More that 10 elephants are staying in the row music is playing and dance is here. Dancing continues through the night. And also firework is fired from Durban Hall Rd.
